Welcome to the first look at my new abstract landscape painting series titled "Healing Landscapes" , where I explore a connection to place; the real and the imagined, and how it reflects the emotional healing landscape of the self.

Have you ever felt a connection to a place, so deep that is awakens something inside you? Perhaps it is a place that carries a special, beautiful memory of love. Perhaps it is a place that led you to discover your sense of independence, or that served to remind you to have gratitude for the gift of being able to see its beauty. Perhaps you connect with a place because it reflects your spirit at the time, and you are drawn to it in order to remember, grow and heal. This is the essence of what I paint about in this series.

My brushstroke patterns in this series draw visual inspiration from the post-impressionist movement and the works of van Gogh and John Russell. I've put care however, into ensuring each petal/leaf stands alone, though there are also many together. It's part of my continuing desire to reinforce the concept of unity and multiplicity; the whole is made up of many smaller counterparts, and we are all connected.

In each piece, I have designed each petal or leaf to reach out and ‘connect’ with others, and I invite the viewer’s eye to follow the flow, to highlight the human need for growth and connection. Intentionally flowing and rhythmic patterns of petals/leaf forms stand as a symbol of blossoming growth and renewal.

Much of what I paint comes from feeling, dream and symbolism. I am prompted to create each new piece from intuitive connection to places I see or dream of, or I translate a memory into a landscape reflection of how it makes me feel.

Perhaps the only conscious part of my painting process is my colour selection. As a qualified colour specialist, I carry into my paintings an awareness of how colour can affect people's mood and trigger memories or desires. So the colours I have chosen carry symbolic value and reinforce a certain type of emotional healing, or connection.
